South-western Governors Unveil Game-changing Security Initiatives

By Muhammad Baqir

In a bold move to tackle insecurity in the region, the South-West governors have launched a South West Security Fund (SWSF) and a digital security platform to share real-time intelligence and coordinate rapid response.

The SWSF, managed by Special Advisers on Security from the six states, will provide steady funding for security operations, including patrols, equipment, vehicles, and training.

The digital platform will enable Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, and Ekiti to share threat alerts, incident reports, and traveller advisories, ensuring swift action against emerging threats.

This initiative is expected to enhance regional security cooperation, improve response times, and deter criminal activities.

The governors also reiterated their support for the establishment of state police, citing the need for decentralised policing to address Nigeria’s Security challenges.
