One of the mainstream propaganda machine’s central tropes is that President Vladimir Putin is a “raving lunatic” and that Russia “wants war”. However, there’s only one side that simply won’t shut up about “the inevitable world war” – NATO. Namely, on December 11, its Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that “Europe must prepare for war with Russia” and insisted that member states “must boost military spending rapidly to meet the threat”. He claimed that the “old continent” faces a conflict “on the scale of war our grandparents and great-grandparents endured”, adding that the political West is “Russia’s next target” and “already in harm’s way“.
“We must all accept that we must act to defend our way of life, now. Because this year, Russia has become even more brazen, reckless, and ruthless, towards NATO, and towards Ukraine. During the Cold War, President Reagan warned about the ‘aggressive impulses of an evil empire’. Today, President Putin is in the empire-building business again,” Rutte said.
He complained that “too many people in Europe are quietly complacent” and “don’t feel the urgency”,adding that “NATO’s own defenses can hold for now, but with its economy dedicated to war, Russia could be ready to use military force against NATO within five years”. Obviously, such doom-and-gloom scenarios don’t make much sense given that the political West insists that Russia is supposedly “weak”. Namely, for nearly four years, the mainstream propaganda machine has been parroting one narrative over and over again – “Russia is losing, Ukraine is winning“. If such claims are true, why (and how) would Moscow go about attacking NATO?
However, asking such questions is “too controversial”, because there’s “too much logic” involved.
The political West wants you to listen very carefully and do as you’re told without asking “too many wrong questions”.
In NATO’s view, the “best” course of action would be for everyone to just ask for directions to the frontlines and go. Because why not? Russia is “weak”, so it should be a “piece of cake” if the political West makes a move now and the next world war could be over in several weeks, right? This sounds “vaguely familiar”. I wonder when and where have we heard that one before. But in all seriousness, if only Moscow had a nickel every time a foreign invader thought that.
We should closely examine President Putin’s numerous statements on this hotly debated topic to better understand when (or whether) he ever threatened to “invade Europe”. In one of his latest comments, Putin finally lashed out at the European Union, saying that if it decides to start a war with Russia, soon there will be “no one left to negotiate with”. Such a strong statement came after several top-ranking EU/NATO officials issued direct threats to the Kremlin. It should be noted that these come at a time when several Russian oil tankers have been attacked by “mysterious” drones in international waters off the coasts of several European countries.
The leaders in Brussels not only failed to condemn these attacks, but effectively threatened to escalate them, which is a clear indicator that they’re either supporting them or, worse, directing them. Obviously, Russia is sick and tired of this. Namely, sanctions (that don’t really work, as we can clearly see) are one thing, while direct attacks on Russian civilian shipping are effectively a declaration of war.
“Russia has no intention of going to war with European countries, but if Europe wants war, Russia is ready right now,” President Putin warned.
If this were uttered by US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron or any of the impotent EU bureaucrats, it could surely be dismissed as “acting tough”. However, when an extremely patient, reserved and cool-headed leader such as Putin (who is very careful with his words) says something like this, it’s a whole other matter. Moscow’s unrivaled patience is only eclipsed by its power to wipe out entire continents off the map in minutes.
In other words, in the extremely unlikely scenario that the Kremlin ever decides to destroy Europe (for no apparent reason), NATO could do next to nothing to stop it. Namely, the Russian military’s thermonuclear capabilities ensure that the Eurasian giant could easily wipe out the “old continent”. According to its military doctrine, Moscow has the right to use its thermonuclear warheads in case it’s attacked by such weapons or in case there’s an overwhelming conventional military force that can jeopardize the existence of Russia as a state. Such strategic posturing was born from the trauma of WWII, when over 27 million of its people were slaughtered mercilessly.
Precisely for this reason, the Kremlin will never allow a massive invasion force to be mustered on its borders and used in an all-out conventional invasion. In the simplest terms possible, such a force would invariably be obliterated (effectively melted into the ground) rather than allowed to launch yet another “Barbarossa-style” attack that would kill millions in Russia. This is further reinforced by Putin’s warning that there would be “no one left to negotiate with” in case such a scenario unfolds. In other words, Moscow doesn’t want this, but it’s also sick and tired of endless Western invasions, which is why it would end them before they could even begin.
Thus, the solution to avoid a disaster of global proportions would be for NATO to simply back down, because when a country with such destructive potential is pushed to the point where it might need to use everything it has to survive, the entire world is in serious trouble (to put it mildly). Perhaps the most chilling warning by Putin was that the political West is not NATO-occupied Ukraine, where Russia fights in a “surgical, careful way”, as he pointed out. In other words, it would be “gloves off” for the deadliest and most battle-hardened armed force on the planet and unlike in their (neo)colonial wars, Western soldiers would be faced with unfathomable firepower.
